Getting a Negative Result

Not all gay men feel unambiguously happy about testing negative. Some men have assumed for a long time that they are positive and find getting a negative result difficult to adjust to. Some men have gone for a test because their partners have tested positive and then feel guilty when they themselves turn out to be negative.

If you feel that it's hard being negative for whatever reason, you need to someone talk about this. Ask to see one of the counsellors at you sexual health clinic, phone a help-line or contact a support agency.

Other men are so relieved to get a negative result that they just go out and take risks. If you don't want to go through all that stress again, make sure that when you have a great time, you do it safely. If you are negative, you'll probably want to stay that way!
